The two charts display the proportion of energy consupmtions in a typical Australian household in 1995 and 2015.
Overall, the most common use of energy is for heating in both years, and the least is lighting. Furthermore, the percentage for other appliances changed the most, while lighting’s value didnt change at all.
To begin with, in 1995 households used the same amount of energy for lighting, other appliances, and refrigeration at 10%, making these the lowest categories. In contrast, the proportion for heating is 40%, the highest out of all 5. Meanwhile, water heating followed closely behind as its share took up 30%.
Moving on, there were several changes in 2015. Most notably, the value for other appliances doubled compared to before, and there was a 5% increase for refrigeration. Despite still being a major use, households only ultilize 30% of their energy on heating, which is a 10% decrease. Similarly, the percentage of water heating also fell by 5%. However, households continue to consume 10% of their energy on lighting, meaning that it still has the smallest share.
