The pie graphs illustrate the popularity of different sports in French schools from 1990 to 2010.
Overall, it is clear from the charts that students preferred swimming the most. While the figure for basketball witnessed a considerable increase, the proportion of other sports fell modestly.
To begin, the preferences for football accounted for 6% in 1990 and this tripled in 2000, before falling to 8%. Turning to swimming, its proportion stood at just below two-fifths. From then on, it grew modestly to 48% in 2000, followed by a moderate decrease to just over two-fifths in 2010.
With regard to tennis, its figure accounted for 4% in 1990. Next, it considerably grew to 7% in 2010. As for other sports, its proportion decreased modestly from a quarter in 1990 to just below a fifth in 2010. Meanwhile, the share of basketball stood at 16% in 1990 and this increased to a quarter despite the fact that this halved in 2000.
