The charts present the different sources of energy produced in Spain in two different years – 2008 and 2017.
Overall, oil and coal saw an overall decrease in the span of 9 years. However, other sources of energy had an increase in production such as renewables and nuclear.
In the year 2008, oil and coal production held a total of 55% but this total figure decreased to just 40% in the year of 2017. In 2008, coal had the largest portion of 28% and saw a sharp decrease to 17% in 2017. Oil was the second highest source of energy, it was decreased from 27% to 23% in the next 9 years.
Sources such as gas, renewables, nuclear and others made up a total of 45% and saw an increase of usage to 62% from 2008 to 2018. Gas stood at 22% in 2008 and had rose slightly to 23% in 2017. Renewables sharply climbed from 9% to 16%. Nuclear had the second largest increase, as it grew from 11% in 2008 to 17% in 2017. Other sources were doubled from 3% to 6%.
