The pie charts illustrate global internet users’ favourite social media platform – facebook, twitter, linkedln, google+, and pinterest – between 2011 and 2013. Units are measured in percentages. Overall, the percentage of twitter, linkedln, and google+ of users increased slightly over the period, whereas the share of facebook users showed a reverse trend, although facebook experienced a favourite social media channel in all years. Despite being grew, the percentage of pinterest users were the lowest among three years.
Facebook was the widespread social media channel across all years. The global internet users’ facebook stood at 59% in 2011, which was followed by a minor drop to 49% by 2012. After a year, its share registered a decline to 38%.
In terms of twitter and linkedln, with the former witnessing at 21%, and the latter was at 10% in 2011. Meanwhile, both social media channels showed a noticeable rise to 23% and 12%, respectively. The distribution of twitter increased marginally to 25%, and linkedln also at 15% in 2013.
Google+ and pinterest were the least common prevalent channels across the other social media. The share of google+ and pinterest users accounted for 5% at the same time, which was followed both social media channels demonstrated a slight growth to 10% and 6%, respectively in 2012. Google+ stood at 14%, in comparison with pinterest at 8% in 2013.
