Overall, Australians spent most of their money on electric appliances in both years. This was followed by home furnishings and food and beverages with slightly lower percentages. Sales in video games and home furnishings faced a notable decline, while that of other items increased. Books were the least bought goods in both years.
In 2010, electric appliances dominated the chart as the most sold product online at 27%. Amounts for home furnishings and food and beverages were slightly lower at 22% and 21% respectively. Books were the least common item to buy online at only 4% sales.
In 2015, figures for electric appliances, food and beverage, gift items and books increased slightly. Electric appliances sales spiked to 33%, as well as gift items which had a notable increase of 4% to 11% surpassing the sales for video games. Australians’ spending on video games decreased dramatically to 8% making them the second least bought items that year after books.
