The two pie charts illustrate the proportions of visitors travelling from the USA to Canada across five age groups in 2000 and 2020.
Overall, people aged 35-54 made up the largest proportion of visitors in both years, although their percentage declined significantly in 2020. In contrast, the proportions of the youngest group (0-15) and the oldest group (55+) increased over the period.
In 2000, visitors aged 35-54 accounted for exactly half of all travellers, making this the dominant age group. People aged 25-34 represented the second largest group at 20%, followed by those aged 55 and over at 16%. Children aged 0-15 made up 10% of visitors, while teenagers aged 16-24 accounted for the smallest share, at only 4%.
By 2020, the proportion of visitors aged 35-54 had fallen considerably to 35%. Similarly, the percentage of those aged 25-34 decreased to 12%. In contrast, the figures for the remaining age groups rose. The proportion of children increased slightly to 12%, while the percentage of teenagers climbed sharply to 15%. Meanwhile, visitors aged 55 and above experienced the most notable growth, rising to 26%.
