The given pie charts show the changes in online retail sales across different sectors in New Zealand between 2003 and 2013.
Generally speaking, the sales of books, as well as films and music, experienced an upward trend during the given period, while the reverse was true for the sales of clothing and travel. Additionally, although travel was the most purchased category at the start of the period, by 2013, film and music had become the most popular, showing the biggest change over the given years along with the clothes.
To begin with, travel and clothes were the categories that had undergone a downward trend over the 10 years. Regarding the former one, in 2003 the majority of sales were in the travel sector, amounting to 36%. However, then, figures had changed and after ten years, travel accounted for only 23% of all online sales. As for the latter one, in the in the first year the proportion of clothing being sold was 24%, however, similarly to the traveling the percentage of its sales had decreased till 16%.
However, books along with film and music had experienced a rising trend, albeit in varying amounts. In terms of sales of books, in 2003, they were the least sold products, making up 19% of all sales. But, by 2013, the share of book sales remained almost unchanged, with only a 3% increase. When it comes to the of film and music, they were the third most sold products in 2003, constituting only 23% of the total sales. However, by the year 2013, the percentage of their sales had increased by 12%, amounting to 33%.
