The pie charts provide information about the proportion of electricity generation by using five sorts of fuel sources in France in 1990 and 2010.
Overall, nearly all fuel sources experienced downward trends over the period shown, while there was a dramatic increase in the proportion of electricity produced by nuclear power, which used to be one of the least used ones.
In 1990, coal and natural gas had the highest percentage of production, each representing 28%. Meanwhile, the figures for oil and nuclear power were slightly lower, at 22% and 17%, respectively. Hydro power, on the other hand, stood out as the least popular source, accounting for only 6% of the total electricity.
Turning to the changes, the percentage of nuclear power in electricity production had grown dramatically to 67% by 2010, making it the dominant source. However, there was a fall in the figures for other fuel sources. In 2010, the proportions of coal and oil were tied, accounting for more than a quarter of the total electricity generated, each comprising 13%. Similarly, the figures for hydro power and natural gas saw a pronounced drop to a mere 4% and 2%.
