In 1991, a majority of people (60%) owned their homes. This figure increased by 10% percantage points 70% in 2007, making it the largest category in both years. Social renting was the second largest type of housing in 1991, accounting for 23% However by 2007 the share of social renting had fallen to 17%, showing a clear decline
Private renting accounted for 11% in both 1991 and 2007, meaning there was no change in this category. Social housing was the smallest group in both years. It made up 6% of homes but it decreased sharply to only 2% in 2007 in the UK.
