In 1991, three-fifths of citizens in Britain owned their homes. While it was only above a fifth who had social renting for their living, and 11% as private renting. In contrast, social housing became the most unpopular, with a total was only 6%.
The housing trend between 1991 and 2007 was similar, although the number of housing units increased from 22 million in 1991 became 27 million homes in 2007. More than two-thirds of people had their own houses. Whereas, it was less than one-fifth who chose social renting and slightly above ten percent in private renting. Conversely, it was a small minority of residents who lived in social housing, approximately only 2%.
