Overall, modern languages were the most popular course in 1985, but this has been overtaken by IT in the present year. It is also clear that courses such as Music appreciation and Local history have been removed, while art and modern languages witnessed varying decreases, and cookery increased moderately.
In terms of the categories in 1985, modern languages were the most preferred, with 24% of students taking these courses, followed closely by fitness and dance at 22%. The equivalent can be seen in the figures for attendants in Art, Local history and Cookery courses, ranging from 14% to 17%. Music appreciation was the least popular in 1985, with only 8% of the total taking part in this course.
In the current year, IT has replaced modern languages as the course with the largest participants, with a figure of 27%, whereas Music appreciation and Local history are no longer part of the curriculum. Meanwhile, the proportion of people attending fitness and dance remained unchanged after nearly four decades. Modern languages and Art followed a similar pattern, both of them decreased to 17% and 15% after four decades, respectively. In contrast, the figure for people participating in cooking witnessed an upward trend, with a rise of 5% after 39 years.
