Overall, although spendings on housing, food and luxury goods increased, the share of clothing, entertainment and travel/transport faced a downward trend. Additionally, clothing and housing had the highest contribution in 1958 and 2008, respectively. On the other hand, luxary goods, in the older period, and travel/transport, in nearer time, accounted fo the lowest shares.
The figures demonstrate that while in 1958 clothing was the main part of the individals’ expendings with 32%, it dropped significantly to less than a half in 2008 and it was replaced with housing, having the same proportion. However, the initial value for housing expanses was 22%. Moreover, the figures for travel/transport fell to less than a half, reaching 6% in 2008, with the lowset proportion of all time.
Furthermore, food and luxary goods had significant grow to more than twice their starting value. They had a share of 8% and 7%, respectively in 1958 but then it reached a proportion of 17%. Conversaly, Europeans’ spendings on entertainment remained nearly the same with near 18% during this period.
