The chart presents seven different categories of industry, namely agriculture, households, electricity and gas, mining, industry, public supply, and “other”, representing industries outside the aforementioned industries.
In the USA, the agricultural industry takes up about 67% of the chart, indicating that it consumes the most water in comparison to other industries in the country combined. Agriculture is followed by the household, public supply, and electrical industry in the USA. Meanwhile, the electricity and gas industries in both Mexico and Canada utilize the most water in each country, taking up about 45% and 58%, respectively. Furthermore, the second largest water-consuming industry is the agricultural industry in Mexico and the industrial sector in Canada.
On the other hand, “other” industries make up for the least amount of water consumed in both Mexico and Canada, only taking up no more than 2% of the chart. The USA on the other hand, has the mining industry using less amount of water than “other industries” by only 1%, stealing its title as the industry with the least amount of water consumption.
