The pie charts compare pie chart compares the proportion of electricity production sources in Germany and France in 2009.
Overall, electricity in France mainly came from nuclear power, whereas the share of conventional thermal was the highest in Germany. In addition, renewable energy accounts for a small rate in both countries, with different sources of renewables.
Looking into the details, conventional thermal accounted for about two thirds of electricity in Germany; however, the figure for France was the least popular at 10.3%. Of equal importance, 76% of electricity in France was created by nuclear energy, while it only took 23% in the total German generation of electricity.
Turning to the remaining data, hydroelectric dominated renewable energy production in France with 80.5%, and nearly 40% of renewable sources was from biomass in Germany. Meanwhile, wind energy was the second-highest source of renewables in Germany and France, responsible for 36.9% and 10.5% respectively. Additionally, the figures for solar and geothermal were negligible in both countries.
