The charts illustrate data regarding electricity production in Germany and France in 2009. Units are given in kWh.
Overall, France had the highest percentage of nuclear power energy, while in Germany conventional thermal energy took up the most among all types. In addition, when it comes to renewable energy, the highest proportion was hydroelectric energy in France.
While nuclear energy generation accounted for the highest percentage, 76%, in France, conventional thermal energy, with 59.6%, had the highest share in Germany. The percentage of renewable energy in France is slightly lower than that of Germany, respectively, 13.7% and 17.4% billion kWh.
In terms of the types of renewable energy, the proportion of hydroelectric generation is approximately 6 times higher than that of Germany, accounting for a total of 80.5% in France. Whereas in Germany, biomass energy, with 39.3%, and wind energy, with 36.9%, took up, respectively, the first and second biggest shares. Similarly, geothermal energy did not develop in either country and accounted for 0%.
