The two pie charts illustrate the findings of a survey conducted on the cultural and leisure activities participated in by boys and girls. The data is presented as a percentage breakdown for six different activities for each gender.
Overall, it is clearly seen that Computer Games is the most popular activity for boys, accounting for over a third of their time, whereas Dancing occupies the top spot for girls. Interestingly, Reading is one of the least popular pastimes for boys but is one of the primary activities for girls. Both groups share a similar, relatively low, level of interest in Listening to Music.
Focusing on the boys’ activities, playing Computer Games accounts for the largest proportion of their leisure time at 34%. The second most favoured choice is Basketball at 26%, followed by Skateboarding at 11%. These three activities alone make up over 70% of the boys’ reported free time. The remaining activities are significantly less popular: Listening to Music accounts for 10%, while Soccer and Reading are the least popular, representing a negligible 2% each.
In contrast, the leisure time for girls shows a different distribution, with Dancing being the most popular activity, accounting for 27%. This is closely followed by Reading at 21% and Netball at 15%. Computer Games, which dominate the boys’ time, only account for 16% of the girls’ activities. The least popular choices for girls are Gymnastics at 11% and Listening to Music at 10%, which is the only category where both genders show a close percentage figure.
