The maps illustrate how the ground floor of a library changed between 2001 and 2009.
Overall, the library had expanded its collection and welcomed more types of visitors with the introduction of new genres and a children’s area.
In 2001, to the south of the library was an entryway, which was located in front of the librarian’s desk. To the west of this enquiry table, there was a stairway, staying across the sections for self-help and history texts. Next to history materials was an area for fictions, which was opposite eight tables in the center of the floor and a zone reserving newspapers and periodicals along the west wall.
By 2009, while the librarian’s desk, along with the entrance and staircase, remained unchanged, other features had altered. To the east of the floor, the shelves for history and self-help resources were scaled down to make room for three new sections of texts: kitchen, economics and law. Following this renovation, tables were placed where fiction books used to be, leading to the relocation of these materials to the east. A designated zone for minors was also introduced in front of these new tables, accompanied by the transformation of the section that once kept newspapers and periodicals into the one that housed films and DVDs. To the south of these new mediums were two computers, showing that the library had been modernized.
