The plans illustrate the changes made to the ground floor of a library between 2001 and 2009.
Overall, the library underwent significant redevelopment during this period. The layout was reorganised to create more specialised areas, particularly for children and digital media, while some original sections were relocated or removed.
In 2001, the left side of the library contained a history section and a self-help area, while the right side featured newspapers and periodicals. Fiction books were located at the top of the floor. Several tables were placed in the centre, and the librarian’s desk was positioned near the entrance. Stairs were located in the bottom right corner.
By 2009, the internal arrangement had changed considerably. The fiction section was moved to the left side, and new subject areas such as law, economics and kitchen books were introduced along the left wall. The newspapers and periodicals section was removed and replaced with a films and DVDs area on the right-hand side. A children’s books section and a children’s area were added at the top and centre of the floor, respectively. Furthermore, computers were installed near the right side of the building.
Despite these modifications, the librarian’s desk, entrance and stairs remained in the same locations.
