The given plans illustrate the layout of the ground floor of a library in 2001 and the changes made to it in 2009. Overall, the space became more diversified in terms of book categories and user facilities, with the addition of a children’s area, computers and new shelving.
In 2001, the left-hand side of the library contained two long shelves dedicated to self-help and history. A large fiction section occupied the top wall, while newspapers and periodicals were located along the right-hand side. In the centre of the room, there were eight small tables arranged in two clusters. The librarian’s desk was positioned by the entrance, near the staircase.
By 2009, the floor underwent major redevelopment. The long shelves on the left were divided into multiple smaller sections, including history, fiction, self-help, kitchen, economics, and law. The central area was redesigned: the previous eight tables were replaced with four longer ones, and a children’s area was introduced between them. The right-hand shelf was removed and substituted with a films and DVDs section. Additionally, a computer zone with several workstations was installed near the stairs, while the librarian’s desk remained in its original position.
