The line graph illustrates the daily usage of three types of transport – cars, trains, and buses – between 1970 and 2030.
Overall, car usage remained the highest throughout the period, while train passengers gradually increased and bus usage declined.
In 1970, around 5 million people used cars daily, making it the most popular mode of transport, followed by buses at approximately 4 million passengers and trains with only 2 million. During the next decade, usage of all three modes remained relatively stable, with train passengers showing only a slight increase.
From 1990 onwards, a notable change occurred. The number of car and train users rose steadily, whereas bus usage began to decline continuously. By 2000, cars were already clearly the dominant mode, while buses started losing popularity.
Between 2000 and 2030, these trends continued. Car usage reached a peak of 9 million daily passengers by 2030. Train usage also increased, surpassing buses around 2010 and reaching 4 million by 2030. In contrast, bus usage fell to 3 million, reflecting its steady decline over the period.
