The data demonstrate details on the police budget in the years 2017 and 2018 in one region of Britain. The table shows where the money came from, and the pie charts present how it was spent.
Overall, there was a steady increase in the amount of money which came from the main sources of the police budget. Also, the largest share of the budget was spent on the salaries paid to the police officers and staff.
In both years, the largest amount of money to finance the police forces was provided by the national government (£175.5 million in 2017 and £177.8 million in 2018). The source which experienced the biggest growth was the local taxes, increasing from £91.2 million to £102.3 million. Other sources, including grants, remained relatively stable at approximately £38 million.
When it comes to how the money was distributed, salaries remained the main category, although the percentage dropped slightly from 75% in 2017 to 69% in 2018. At the same time, the sum assigned to technology almost doubled, going from 8% to 14%. As for the money spent on buildings and transport, the share remained unchanged (17% in both years).
