The table depicts the sources of the budget of the police in an area of Britain, in the years 2017 and 2018. The figures are in millions of pounds. Furthermore, the pie chart illustrates what proportion of the budget was spent on salaries, technology, and buildings and transport in the same years.
Overall, the police budget has increased from 304.7 million in 2017 to 318.6 million in 2018, with the most money being sourced from the national government, followed by local taxes, and the least was obtained from other sources like grants during both the years. Although the priority order has remained constant, with the majority of it being spent on giving salaries, the proportion of distribution has changed.
In 2017, 175.5 million was spared by the government, while 91.2 million was collected from taxes and 38 million from other sources. Majority of the budget was spent on giving the officers and the staff their salary, which comprised 75% of the total money. From the remaining, 17% was spent on buildings and transport, with the leftover 8% being allocated for technology.
There was an increment in budget from all sources in 2018, where 177.8 million came from the government, 102.3 million from taxes and lastly, 38.5 million from other sources. 69% of the budget was spent on salaries. Similar to 2017, 17% was allocated for construction of buildings and on transportation, however, there was an increase in the budget reserved for technology by 6% as compared to the previous year, making it 14% in 2018.
In conclusion, the fiscal report showed that the budget of the police was increased by 13.9 million pounds, with an increased proportion being spent of technology compensated by a decrease in the fraction allocated for salaries in comparison to the previous year.
