The table compares four different countries – Thailand, South Korea, Singapore, and Japan – in terms of the number of tourists from 2000 and 2014. Units are measured in millions.
It is clear that the largest number of travelers went on Thailand, whereas Japan received the smallest volume of visitors every year except in 2005.
Out of the four countries, Thailand was the most popular destination throughout the period. After welcoming 9.5 million international visitors in 2000, the figure rose steadily to 24.8 million in 2014. Singapore also experienced consistent growth, starting at 7,7 million and reaching 15.1 million, making it the second most visited country.
When it comes to South Korea and Japan, they registered lower numbers at 5.3 million and 4.8 million respectively in 2000. However, Japan overtook South Korea, with reaching 6.7 million and 6.0 million. By the end of the period, both nations saw a dramatic increase in tourism; South Korea’s figure nearly tripled from its starting point to reach 14.2 million, surpassing Japan, which finished at 13.4 million.
