The table chart below illustrates the percentage of smokers in males and females according to the different age groups in Britain over the period from 1970 to 2000.
In general, it can be seen that females percentage of smoking were slightly exceeded male smokers, except of two period of time when the situation was reversed.
period from 1985 to 1990saw a dramatic increase of figures oof the smokers, which percentage made it to 37 per cent by males in 1985 and the same pattern accomplished by females in 1990. While the lowest proportion of smokers found among womens in 1970 which accounted just 5 per cent, whereaes mens demonstrated only 10 per cent, Between 1990 and 1995 there were slight change, females were outnumbered males by the proportion. The difference between two genders stood at only 1 per cent in 1990, wheraes in 1995 this figure stoood at 2 per cent.
In sharp contrast to 1975 and 1980, the percentages of female smokers were significantly lower than those of males standing at 13 per cent and 22 per cent respectively. While 2000 showed only a 1 per cent difference between the two genders.
