The table depicts the percentage of expenditure for three categories of products and services in five countries in 2002.
Overall, spending on the products and services surveyed increased, except for Leisure/ Education which saw a decline. People from five countries spent the most on Food/Drinks and Tobacco, while the lowest spending was recorded on leisure/Education over the year.
Consumer spending on food, drinks, and tobacco was significantly higher in Turkey, at 32.14%, and Ireland, at nearly 29%, compared to the other three countries. Turkey also had the highest spending on leisure and education, at 4.35%. On the other hand, Italy had significantly higher expenditure on clothing and footwear, at 9%, compared to other countries.
Moreover, Sweden had the lowest national consumer expenditure percentages for food, drinks, tobacco, clothing, and footwear, at approximately 16% and slightly over 5%, respectively. In contrast, Spain had considerably higher figures for these categories, but the lowest figure for leisure and education, at only 1.98%.
