The table provides data about the expenditures of people from five countries: Ireland, Italy, Spain, Sweden, and Turkey in 2020. The information is presented in terms of average spending on various items as a percentage of the population.
Overall, food, drinks, and tobacco were the most popular items in all five countries; meanwhile, leisure and education were the least popular.
While the share of spending on food, drinks, and tobacco showed a great discrepancy, Turkey nearly doubled Sweden and Italy in this regard (32.14% to 15.77% in Sweden and 16.36% in Italy). Although Ireland ranked second in this category with 28.91%, Spain accounted for over 18%, which was relatively similar to Italy and Sweden.
In terms of clothing and footwear, there was a small disparity among the five countries, with Italy showing 9% of spending, which was the largest proportion. However, 5.40% of Swedes were not attracted to fashion, as well as Ireland, Spain, and Turkey, which had nearly the same percentage at around 6.5%. Whereas, out of every $100 spent by the Turkish people, just over $4 was spent on leisure and education, which was the highest among the nations and was over twice as much as Spain. Finally, Italian people spent the same amount of money on this category as Swedes, with around 3.2%, whereas Irish citizens’ spending was smaller by a mere 1%.
