The table presents data about the main characteristics of tourists to New Zealand during the month of September from 2012 to 2016. Overall, all the characteristics increased in number through the given period of time.
In 2012, New Zealand faced a notable wave of tourists,179,069 to be exactly, nearly 30,400 of which were adolescents under 15 or people older than 65 years. However, the year of 2016 set the record with 245,089 visitors, including the number of 21,856 teenagers and 20,384 people from the age group of 65+. Millenials stayed as the generation which went to New Zealand the most in both years, showing progression from 30,670 to 40,192.
Spending holidays stayed as the main reason for travelling, however there was a significant increase from 79,136 to 123,200 visitors . Analogically, least people which were between 3000 and 4500 travelled for education. In-between these, approximately 6000 people chose to come to New Zealand for the purpose of conferences and conventions in both years . 19,984 and 56,112 went to the trip for business and to visit friends and family in 2012, while in 2016 these purposes went up to 22,800 and 69,776 people.
