The table illustrates the data of underground railways system in six different cities based on their year of establishment, annual passengers and the length of route.
Overall, the three oldest railways systems, London, Paris and Tokyo has the highest length of routes and commuters per year compared to the new underground systems.
Based on the table, London, which was the oldest systems began operation in 1863, with a distance of 394kilometers and 775million commuters in a year. However, the distance in Paris decreased to 199kilometers, but the amount of people who used the railway increased significantly to 1191 millions per annum. Despite the reduction in the route for Tokyo, 1927 millions of people use the railway system yearly.
On the other hand, among the newest railway systems, Washington DC has a longer route of 126kilometers compared to Kyoto and Los Angeles with 11 and 28kilometers respectively. Kyoto has the lowest number of passengers even though it has the shortest routes among the cities all year round.
