Overall, the three oldest railway systems, London, Paris and Tokyo has the highest length of routes and commuters per year compared to the new underground systems.
Based on the table, London, which was the oldest systems began operation in 1863, with a distance of 394kilometers and 775million commuters in a year. However, the distance in Paris decreased to 199kilometers, but the proportion of people who used the railway increased significantly to 1191millions in 365days. Despite the reduction in the route for Tokyo, with 1927millions of people use the railway system yearly.
Furthermore, among the newest transportation Washington DC which was established in 1976 has a longer route of 126kilometers compared to Kyoto and Los Angeles with 11 and 28kilometers respectively. Also, in the new era, Washington DC had the largest number of passengers using the transportation with 144million a year which is three times more than Kyoto. Although, Kyoto and Los Angeles had the shortest route with 11kilometers and 28kilometers respectively, but it did not increase the number of commuters using the services. It is evident that more individuals travelled on train in the olden days compared to now.
