In general, London accounted for the longest and oldest underground railway among the given cities. In addition, Tokyo is the most popular commuter rail compared to Kyoto which has fewer passengers each year.
First of all, London’s commuter rail is the oldest system, started operation in 1863. It is also the largest system with 394 kilometers, and has 775 million passengers yearly. The second largest system is in Paris, which is 199 route kilometers, having opened in 1900, and there are around 1191 million commuters. Moreover, the third largest underground railway is in Tokyo, 155 kilometers long, and started operation in 1927 with the largest number of passengers around 1927 million per year.
Meanwhile, Los Angeles accounted for the newest rail commuter, opening in 2001, which has 28 kilometers of route, and 50 million passengers use it for daily transportation. In contrast, only 45 million passengers in Kyoto used this transportation per year, which has the shortest route, 11 kilometers, and opened in 1981.
