The table provide information on underground railway systems located in six major cities: London, Parid, Tokyo, Washington DC, Kyoto and Los Angeles. The data are date opened, route’s length in kilometres and annual number of passengers in millions.
Overall, it is evident that the newer the subway system, the shorter its track is. Moreover, the three oldest MST have the most users yearly, while the others have significantly less passengers.
Looking at the data, the oldest railway system – being opened in 1863 – is found in London with a 394 kilometres-long route. In contrast, the latest one, which was built in Los Angeles in 2001, only spans for 28 kilometres.
Regarding the annual passengers count, Tokyo’s, Paris’s and London’s are the three most used subway with 1928, 1191 and 775 million users every year consecutively. In comparison, the number of users of subways built in Washington DC, Kyoto and Los Angeles are only 144, 45 and 50 million people sequentially, which are more than 10 times less.
