The table shows the changes in the number of travelers who used three distinct British airports, namely Heathrow, Gatwick, and Stansted, in the period of 6 years, from 1998 to 2003. In general, it is clear that all figures exhibited increasing trends of varying numbers. Moreover, airport Gatwick was the most popular among other airports, despite being overtaken by Heathrow in 2000.
In spite of having wild changes, albeit with diversified numbers over the studied period, Heathrow airport experienced a rise in the number of its visitors from 27.2 million to 36.4 million travelers in 1998. The figure then increased rapidly to 48,2 million in 2000, overtaking all the remaining airports in that year. This growth, however, was not maintained, dipping to 37,1 million by 2001, which then later decreased again to 33,2 million travelers in the next year. The figure of Heathrow airport users grew to 45,6 million people in the final year.
By contrast, the airports: Gatwick and Stansted showed somewhat similar trends, with the former being the most used and the latter being the least used airport throughout. The number of airport passengers in Gatwick made up to 36,5 million people in 1998, later going up to 41,9 million in the next year. Similarly, starting at 17,3 million travelers in 1998, the figures for the Stansted airport users rose dramatically to 43,3 million by 2001, which then remained stable until the final studied year.
