The table shows the number of citizens (in millions) using five different public transportation models in Milan over four years starting from 2010.
Overall, the general trend was an elevation in the usage of public conveyance throughout the time scale. In addition, the metro was superior whereas taxis accounted for the smallest proportion of public transport usage throughout the four-year period.
Over the period, the figures of the metro experienced an increase in transport usage, rising by 2 users, from 3.0 in 2010 to 5.0 in 2014 – the highest figure shown in the table. Similarly, train usage also saw a significant growth, more than doubling to 3.6 by the end of the period after starting at 1.4 users.
Compared to other public transport, both trams and buses showed an upward trend, with the number of users nearly doubling to 2.2 and 2.4, respectively. However, there was a slight dip in the figure of buses in 2011 before recovering in 2012. Finally, taxi usage showed consistent increases, with a steady annual growth of 0.1, reaching 1.0 by the end of the period.
