Overall, France stood out as the country with the highest medical expenditure percentage. Moreover, France also recorded the most significant difference between public spending and private spending.
Regarding Germany, France and the USA, total expenses for medical care in France accounted for 11.4%, with the figures for public spending and private spending standing at 8.6% and 2.8%, respectively, which made France the country spending most on medical care, either public or private. Slightly below were Germany and the USA, as their total spending stood at 9.3% and 8.6%, respectively. Public spending on health in Germany made up 7%, which was 4.3 percentage points higher than private spending, at 2.3%. Meanwhile, the USA witnessed a smaller gap between the two sectors, with 6% for public expenses and 2.6% for private spending.
Concerning two remaining countries, total medical expenses in Italy were marginally higher than that of Japan, as their corresponding figures stood at 7.7% and 7.2%. Similarly, private spending in Italy accounted for 2.4%, which was 1 percentage point higher than Japan, at 1.4%. In contrast, public spending on medical care in Japan made up 5.8%, while that of Italy was slightly lower, at 5.3%.
