The table collates the cost of transportation service in terms of short and long distance between the two most favoured ride-booking applications, including Uber and Grab, and local taxis among numerous nations across Southeast Asia in 2016.
A glance at the table reveals that the overall fares were highest in Singapore in all three categories, whereas Indonesia offered the most keenly priced fees.
Regarding short journeys (5km), Singapore occupied the leading position, with the most striking disparity between local taxis, with 7.0 USD and two other apps, with 5.6 USD and 4.3 USD for Uber and Grab respectively. The fares were relatively lower in remaining countries, ranging from 1.9 USD to 2.7 USD for both Uber and Grab and from 2.3 USD to 3.5 USD for local taxis. Meanwhile, the most negligible payment for travelling such a short distance was exhibited in Indonesia, with approximately 1.7 USD for booking via two apps and 2.3 for hailing taxis.
Turning to distances of 20km, local taxis in Singapore and Vietnam were showcased to be the most exorbitant, with 16.2 USD for the former, nearly double that of Indonesia and 12.7 USD for the latter, two times higher than Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand. 12.8 USD and 11.6 USD would be charged when travelling long distances if one used Uber and Grab correspondingly in Singapore, followed by 7.6 USD and 9.5 USD in Vietnam. The expenses were markedly lower in other countries, with the most reasonable fares being in Indonesia where Uber cost 4.6 USD and Grab cost 5.4 USD .
