The table illustrates the data for three types of fish: Arctic char, farmed salmon, and rainbow trout from 2008 to 2018; the unit is millions of tons.
The numbers of all major species grew noticeably, with rainbow trout consistently being the least. While Arctic char initially dominated, salmon were raised in much larger numbers toward the end of the period.
The number of farmed salmon increased steadily for 10 years, but increased sharply in 2018; the number increased more than twice compared to the previous year: 13,448 million tons. In addition, the number of rainbow trout increased steadily from 2008 to 2016, but decreased sharply in the last year, from 2138 to 295, about seven times lower than the previous year. On the other hand, the consumption of Arctic trout is different from the other two types. In the first 2 years, the number of fish decreased from 3124 to 2427 million tons, but in the following years of the period, the number increased steadily from 3089 million tons to 4919 million tons, an increase of 1830 million tons compared to 2010.
From 2008 to 2014, the number of Arctic char was the highest, but in the last 2 years, the number of salmon was the highest. In the 10 years, the number of rainbow trout was always in last position among all three types.
