The table shows how much men and women earned on average each week in different types of jobs during 2015. For each type of job, men earned more than women.
Men’s average salaries varied according to occupation. Professionals earned the highest salary, an average of $2000 a week. The next highest earning group was technicians, with an average weekly salary of $1400. Manual laborers earned the least-$1100 a week on average.
Women’s average salaries also varied by occupation, but in each case, they were lower than men’s salaries. Like men, women professionals earned the highest salary-$1900 a week on average. This is $1000 less than professional men’s salaries. The second highest earners were administrative/ clerical workers, earning $1000 a week-$350 less than male administrative/ clerical workers, and $400 less than the second highest earning group for men (technicians). As with men, women manual laborers earned the least. Their average weekly salary was just $850, $250 less than men’s.
Both men and women earned different amounts depending on their jobs, but women consistently earned less than men in similar occupations.
