Overall, there was an upward trend, albeit to varying degrees and in different patterns, in the percentage of people interested in tennis, swimming, golf and yoga, while the opposite was true for football, volleyball and basketball. Notably, golf experienced the most pronounced growth throughout the period.
Looking at the details, the figure for tennis was 25% in 1999. Thereafter, it increased to 30% in 2004 before climbing further to 33% in 2009. Swimming ranked second, accounting for 32% in 1999. After that, it experienced a slight rise to 34% in 2004 and remained unchanged until 2009. Golf experienced the most significant growth, increasing from 8% in 1999 to 13% in 2004 and 17% in 2009. Finally, yoga remained stable at 10% between 1999 and 2004 before rising slightly to 13% in 2009.
Regarding football, it recorded 57% in 1999, being the largest category in the list. Following this, it gradually decreased to 52% in 2004 and then to 48% in 2009. Even though the percentage of football decreased, it remained the most popular among the seven sports throughout the period. As for basketball, it ranked as the third and represented 26% of the total in 1999. Afterwards, in 2004, it declined slightly to 25% before falling further to 24% in 2009. During the same period, volleyball accounted for 17% in 1999. It then rose to 20% in 2004 but dropped back to 18% in 2009
