The table illustrates the proportions of individuals participating in seven sports in a European country between 1999 and 2009.
Overall, there were increases in the percentages of players across most sports, except for football and basketball. Additionally, football was by far the most popular physical activity throughout the period, whereas yoga generally had the least attendance over a decade.
Regarding sports seeing increases, swimming initially stood at 32%, which then rose slightly to 34% in 2004 before remaining relatively unchanged towards the end of the period. Tennis experienced a more significant increase, rising from 25% to 33% over the 10 years. By contrast, golf and yoga started the period at lower proportions, representing 8% and 10% respectively. It is notable that the figure for golf nearly doubled by 2009, accounting for approximately 17% of the population. Meanwhile, after maintaining the proportion from 1999 to 2004, yoga showed a moderate increase to roughly 13% by the end of the period.
As for the two remaining sports, football had the highest figure in 1999, with 57% of Europeans showing preferences, despite a considerable decline to 48% by the end. In contrast, basketball recorded a more gradual decrease, falling from around 26% to 24% over the ten-year period.
