The given table illustrates the changes in the percentage of lawyers working in different industries in a particular country from 2001 to 2016.
Overall, the Government industry had the highest proportion throughout the period. However, while the number of lawyers in the Private Lawyer and Business industries increased, the opposite was true with the Government and Other industries.
In 2001, the percentage of male and female lawyers in the Government sector was about 45% and 41%. After 15 years, although the rate of females slightly rose by 1%, the figure of men working in this industry decreased dramatically from 45% to 38%. Similarly, the “Others” sector showed a downward trend in the percentage of female lawyers, plummeting from 28% to 16% in 2016.
In contrast, this figure for both Private Lawyer and Business category had an increase. While the proportion of Business male lawyers remained unchanged over the period, that of females surged to around 21% in 2016. During this time, Private Lawyer firms also went up from 15% to 19% in males, and from 17% to 21% in females, showing a stable growth for both genders.
