The table illustrates the changes in the percentage of male and female lawyers working in different industries in a specific country between 2001 and 2016.
Overall, the distribution of lawyers across these industries remained relatively stable over the period, with government jobs being the most popular choice. However, there were notable shifts, particularly in the business sector and other fields.
To begin with, government positions remained the most preferred, attracting around 40% of both male and female lawyers in both years. The percentage of male lawyers in this sector slightly declined from 45% to 38%, while the proportion of female lawyers increased slightly from 41% to 42%.
Meanwhile, the proportion of male lawyers in the business sector remained unchanged at 14%, whereas the percentage of female lawyers in this field rose significantly from 14% to 21%. Similarly, private practice saw moderate growth among both genders, increasing from 15% to 19% for males and from 17% to 21% for females.
In contrast, while the proportion of male lawyers working in other fields grew slightly from 26% to 29%, there was a sharp decline in the percentage of female lawyers in this category, dropping from 28% to just 16%.
