The table gives information about student workers from four different countries in the United Kingdom after their first courses in 2001.
Overall, with the exception of overseas employment, Scotland was dominant in all types of employment. Similarly, Northern Ireland was the last-ranked country in terms of employment, except for overseas. Notably, permanent employment was the most popular type of work.
Looking at details, there was a big disparity between Scotland and Northern Ireland in terms of permanent employment, with 43.6% and 20% respectively. Scotland had 20.2% in temporary employment; this was twice as much as Northern Ireland’s. The latter accounted for 5% in overseas employment; this was almost twice that of Scotland. Eventually, total employment constituted 66.4% and 33.6% respectively.
Contrastingly, there was only a 3% disparity between England and Wales, with the former having 33% while the latter had 30%. When it comes to temporary employment, England accounted for 12.4%; this proportion was twice as small as Wales’s percentage. There was almost no disparity in terms of overseas employment, with England constituting 23% while Wales constituted 23%. Totally, there was a 13% difference between these countries, with the former numbering 58.3% and the latter 45.3%.
