The table above shows the number of people in each age group working in various sectors in UK during 1998 and 2006. The age group were divided into 6 groups, ranging from 18 to 65 on selected sectors such as hotel & catering, building, technology and education.
As shown on the table, it is clear that each age group has its own preferences in certain sectors for each year. For example, in 1998, people aged 26-65, had its highest number of workers in the education sector, almost twice as much as other sectors. However, building sector was dominating the market of workers aged 18-25, with a number of 112,565 workers, followed by hotel & catering with 25,764. While other sectors remained constant at 5,000 to 6,000 workers.
The data reveals that in 1998, only 800 people aged from 56-65 worked in the technology sector. This number was the lowest amount of worker in any sectors and throughout the time. Meanwhile in 2006, the numbers spiked to about half a million people aged 26-35, which marks the highest amount of worker ever recorded during the period.
