The chart illustrates the proportions of the workforce for both genders in six different categories in two separate years, 1993 and 2003.
Overall, the shares of services and transport sectors attracted the highest male and female workers whereas the percentage of the workforce in building almost accounted for less than the remaining categories over the period shown. It is also noticeable that there was a significant increase in the rate of women workers in the business sector, while the figure for agriculture categories for male labor decreased considerably.
In 1993, the percentages of the female workforce in services and transport and manufacturing were the highest, at 53% and 25%, respectively. By contrast, the proportions of business and building for women workers were the lowest, only at 1%. As for men, the share of agriculture took up the biggest, around 38%, whereas the rate of social services was only 5%.
By 2003, we can see that the workforce figure for both genders in the services and transport sectors accounted for the vast majority, above 30%. Meanwhile, the rate of the male and female workers in the remaining categories remained nearly stable.
