The table below displays the changes in the number of men and women working in the four different employment sectors in given country over three years from 1986 to 2006.
Overall,the education sector consistently employed the highest propotion of women,while men were more dominant in manufacturing in 1986,through this share declined over time.In most sectors the gap narrowed across the peroid.
In the 1986, manufacturing accounted for 32% of male employement,the largest among all sectors of men emoloyment,but this fell steadily to 17% over the period.In contrast men working in catering rose from 16% to 22% by 1996, remaining stable thereafter.Banking and education saw gradual increases,with banking from 11% to 21% and education from 13% to 15% over the whole period.
For women,education was by far the largest employment area,climbing from 33% in 1986 to 38% in 2006.Caltering consistently employed 26% of women,showing no change across the year.On the other habd the proportion of women in manufacturing dropped dramatically starting from 18% in 1986 to 6% in 2006.Banking initially occupied 12% of women in 1986,rising to 19% by 2006.
