The table compares how citizens in five European countries spend their income on food and beverage, accommodation, clothes and recreation.
Overall, the percentages of money allocated for food and drink and housing in all countries examined are highest, while clothing receive the least household income, except Turkey.
Regarding food and drink, Turkish people spend 36% of their income on this category, and the figures for Spain and the UK are slightly lower at 31% and 27 %, respectively. In addition, the percentages of monthly earnings people in France and Germany for this spending area are similar at around 25%. By contrast, 37% of monthly income is allocated for accommodation in the UK, compared to 33% of Germany and 31% of France. Meanwhile, the figures for Turkey and Spain are just around 20%.
Clothing accounts for 15% of total income of a German in a month, doubling that of Spain and France. At the same time, the figures for the UK and Turkey were slightly lower, with respective figures being 11% and 12%. Finally, a person in Germany uses 19% on entertainment, which is 4% and 6% greater than that of Spain and France. The allocation for the UK and Turkey is almost the same at around 10%.
