The table illustrates the distribution of household income across four categories in five European countries. Overall, it is clear that food and drink along with housing are the primary areas where all five countries allocate their money, while clothing and entertainment receive significantly less funding.
Housing represents the largest expenditure for France, Germany, and the UK, with each country dedicating around one-third of their income to this category – specifically, 30%, 33%, and 37% respectively. In contrast, Turkey and Spain spend around one-fifth of their income on housing, but allocate roughly one-third to food and drink.
The expenditure on clothing and entertainment is much lower for all countries. France and Spain spend the least on clothing, each allocating less than 10%, while the other three countries allocate between 11% and 15%. In terms of entertainment spending, Germany leads at 19%, followed by the UK and Turkey spending approximately half of that amount, while France and Spain fall in between these figures.
