The given chart illustrates the percentage of native English females and males who studied 9 major languages at the UK Centre for foriegn language learning in 2020
Overall, most of the women and men preferred to learn Mandarin and Arabic respectively, whereas Italian was the least popular with females like Polish with males.
Mandarin was the most popular with women (27%) which was almost twice as high as the percentage of men. It is interesting to note that the percantages of Spanish learners were the same among both genders, precisely 19%. As for Arabic, the proportion of females was 10% as against 22% of males who took the lead compared to the learners of the other languages.
Italian was the least popular with women with only 3%. 5% of men learnt French which was the same as Italian as opposed to 10% of women. When it comes to German, the figure for women was 7%, but that for men was twice as much.
As far as Polish is concerned, 11% of women chose to study this language. However, just 3% of males preferred it which was the least in percentage. Interestingly, Japanese learners in both sexes shared almost the same percentages with about 10%. Additionally, 8% of men opted to study Welsh which was twice higher than the percentage of women.
