The table shows the change in the number of cinemas in different regions in European countries between 2004 and 2009. From an overall perspective, the total number of cinemas increased, with growth observed in all areas except the suburbs and countryside. It is also worth noting that the city center had the greatest number of cinemas, while the reverse was true for the suburban area.
Focusing on the city and the near city first, both regions showed a similar upward trend. The figure for the former went up from 1,512 in 2004 to 1,620 by 2009, showing a 7.14 % change. The figure for the latter, meanwhile, increased by 100, reaching 400, representing the largest percentage increase of 33.33%.
Suburb and countryside, however, observed a similar downward trend. The count of cinemas in the suburb stood at 40 in 2004, before declining to 30 by 2009, indicating a -16.67% change. Similarly, the countryside experienced a downward trend in cinema numbers, decreasing from 108 in 2004 to 90 by the end of the period, marking at 16.67 percentage change.
As regards the total number of cinemas, it showed a noticeable change. It rose from 2,100 to 2,287, illustrating an 8.9% increase by the end of the given time.
