The table shows the changes in the number of cinemas in four different areas of a European country – City Center, Near City Center, Suburb, and Countryside from 2004 to 2009.
Overall, the cinemas were located in or near the city showed increases, with the greatest number observing in the City Center. However, there was a decline in both suburban and countryside areas during the period.
Looking at the details, the number of cinemas in the city center rose from 1,512 in 2004 to 1,620 in 2009, representing a 7.14% increase. A marked rise was observed in the area near the city center, increasing from 300 in 2004 to 400 in 2009, representing the highest percentage change of 33.33% during the five-year period.
By contrast, cinemas in the suburb fell from 40 in 2004 to 30 in 2009, representing the most significant proportional decline of 25%. Likewise, the countryside saw a drop from 108 to 90 cinemas, a 16% decrease.
Despite the mixed trends, overall number of cinemas in the country rose from 2100 in 2004 to 2,287 in 2009, with an 8.9% increase.
